THE ALCÁZARES

With a population of 18,000 inhabitants which increases to more than 100.000 people in summer time, Los Alcázares is the youngest municipality in the Region of Murcia (1983). Because of its special climate, back in the old days the farmers used to come to this town because of its beaches, every year in August they used to come to receive the traditional novena (nine baths in the Mar Menor).

Today, this tradition is remembered every year with the international week of the field and the sea, in the month of August. Los Alcázares was well known for its spas, and their wooden constructions that went straight into the sea so that the ladies could walk into the water without the men being able to stare at them, and that stretched all along their beaches. The largest of them was the King Alfonso XIII Spa, which had 3 large pavilions, one for ladies, one for gentlemen and one for married. Those that are preserved today are considered assets of cultural interest.

It is worth visiting its municipal Aeronautical Museum, strolling through its pedestrian streets, its traditional small shops and its promenade. Maritime excursions can be made (July 1st to August 31st), with visits to La Manga del Mar Menor located in on the other side of the lagoon, daily departures from the Pescadería or a tourist route through the Mar Menor, lasting two hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (a minimum of 25 people is required).

MAR MENOR AND ITS BEACHES

The Mar Menor is a salty lagoon, which communicates with the Mediterranean Sea by 3 points called “golas”, with little depth that does not exceed 7 meters at its maximum point and with a water temperature higher than usual. The tranquility of its waters and its long beaches, make them particularly ideal for the enjoyment of the whole family, especially children.

The Mar Menor, in addition to being the largest open-air spa, is considered one of the best regatta courses, in which it is possible to practice all kinds of water sports throughout the year. A few meters from the Hotel is the Infanta Cristina High Performance Center, where elite athletes from the world of sailing and sports related to the sea, come to improve their personal brands.

Los Alcázares has 9 km of coastline, of which 5 km have a promenade, with five beaches from south to north, all of them awarded in 2008 with the Banderas Azules de la C.E.E. and with the seal of QUALITY “Q” in 2010. Los Narejos beach, located a few meters from the Hotel Costa Narejos, considered one of the best beaches in the Mar Menor, has all the necessary services for the enjoyment of sunbathers:
